These communities are also beneficiaries of the LASED III project. The JSDF intervention will generate new and sustainable sources of incomes for project beneficiaries through the development of a lucrative horticulture value chain, the emergence of a local agri-processing industry, and tourism services. Has the Project Development Objective been changed since Board Approval of the Project Objective? It covers 20 Indigenous Communities (ICs) out of the 27 ICs covered by Land Allocation for Social and Economic Development III (LASED III) in the provinces of Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri and aims at improving the livelihoods of ICs through the implementation of innovative rural livelihoods development programs, including farming (improved production of horticulture, school bio-gardens), off-farm and non-farm activities. It is therefore highly complementary to the LASED III project. A total of 400 demo-farmers demonstration plots was launched across 20 villages, of which 190 have received training in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). Implementation of off-farm and non-farm activities such as TVET are also well underway with 616 young people have been identified and already trained in entrepreneurship, marketing, and food processing. Several anecdotal evidence suggest that average sale prices received by demo-farmers are well above the market prices. This is probably due to the more organic nature of the production by the demo-farmers. However, Comments: quantitative survey of sale prices by demo-farmers and provincial market prices would be completed by June 2024 to arrive at a more accurate estimate of the ratio of prices. Year 3, Target 100 Overall Comments PDO While good progress has been made on the setting up of school bio-gardens and the launching of TVET, there is need to accelerate the pace of setting up horticulture demonstration plots, and their subsequent replications. For the project implementation to progress satisfactorily towards meeting the PDO, it is paramount that most of the planned demonstrations across the 20 ICs (target is 400) be carried out by end 2024, to enable their replications to begin by end 2024.
