KEY ISSUES & STATUS May 17, 2024 Page 1 of 9 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Senegal Municipal Solid Waste Management Project (P161477) 4.1 Implementation Status and Key Decisions The Project was approved on March 5, 2020, signed on June 22, then declared effective on August 31 that same year. The PROMOGED was created by Presidential decree on June 24, 2021. The current Project Director was appointed on November 30, 2023. The Project management unit is fully staffed and has personnel in all Project areas of intervention. In Dakar, rehabilitation works at Mbeubeuss are expected to start in July 2024. In the meantime, a series of emergency activities to improve in the short-term the conditions at Mbeubeuss and for the workers and communities at Mbeubeuss continue to be carried out and are almost completed (they were identified through a consultative process that started prior to the COVID-19 pandemic). Social facilitation NGOs will soon be recruited to support the implementation of the RAP and work on a detailed Livelihood restoration plan. The 3P Program (Programme prioritaire de propreté) covering both Dakar and secondary cities continues to be implemented with small scale infrastructure and works to improve waste collection and management at disposal sites. For the longer-term solutions in both Greater Dakar and secondary cities, technical studies continue to be carried out. 5.
