The project supports the delivery of essential health, nutrition, population (HNP) services, as well as clean water and improved sanitation services in an extremely fragile context. As of March 2023, the project supports 72 hospitals and 2,198 primary health care (PHC) centers in all governorates. The project has surpassed targets for the HNP PDO indicators. For the number of beneficiaries of health and nutrition services, the project has achieved 139 percent of the target, reaching 7.21 million people against the original target of 5.18 million. For the number of women beneficiaries of HNP services provided, the project has achieved 166 percent of the target, reaching 3.8 million women against the original target of 2.3 million. Twelve percent of all health beneficiaries are internally displaced persons (IDPs). For the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) PDO results indicators, 450,000 people received access to improved 4/27/2023 Page 1 of 11 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Yemen Emergency Human Capital Project (P176570) water supply and sanitation (compared to a target of 1,275,000), of which 48.5 percent are female beneficiaries (compared to a target of 48 percent). The EHCP also provides institutional capacity building and system strengthening support to build shock-resilient and absorptive systems. The project has supported building and strengthening systems that can be managed by national and sub-national institutions to: (i) identify health and WASH needs of the population through surveillance, information systems; (ii) improve health, nutrition, and WASH service delivery, including prevention and early detection services; and (iii) strengthen clinical and managerial competencies (both knowledge and skills) of health workers. In addition, the project supports maintaining and scaling up critical information systems to track children’s nutrition and immunization status. The rollout of the District Health Information System II (DHIS II) enables capturing aggregate data for program design, implementation, and monitoring. Non-communicable disease (NCD) surveillance is also being piloted through DHIS II. NCD protocols were finalized to improve prevention, early detection, and management of NCDs. The project is also supporting the enhancement of the project management skills of the Ministry of Public Health and Population team.
