Additional financing was approved by the World Bank Board on December 8, 2023. The Additional Financing Agreement and Project Agreement were subsequently signed by Solomon Islands Government and Solomon Water on December 30 and 18, 2023, respectively. Civil works contracts have been awarded for the Auki Water Supply Upgrade, Kongulai Water Treatment Plant, Honiara Water Supply Mains, Honiara Water Supply Reservoirs and Ranadi Road to Goodwood Sewer Works. The Auki water supply upgrade was completed in 2020 with a new reservoir, pumping station and pipeline now fully operational. Throughout 2022, Solomon Water and consultants have been delivering hygiene awareness campaigns in Honiara settlements and developing, in consultation with community, a technical manual for toilet construction with a focus on low-cost options. Preparation of engineering designs is ongoing for future investment in water supply systems in provincial towns, rehabilitation of the Honiara water supply system to reduce non-revenue water and rehabilitation of the Honiara sewerage system including construction of an ocean outfall.
