The project was officially launched in Mombasa by the President of Kenya on June 26, 2021, with high-level representation from central and county governments, relevant stakeholders, and media coverage. The Project Development Objective is to improve the management of priority fisheries and mariculture and increase access to complementary livelihood activities in coastal communities. Component 1 activities are delayed, the counties of Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu have identified priority list of infrastructure that each county. The preparation of these sub-projects is partially complete due to the various missing documentation and related studies including land ownership documents. Component 2 activities are progressing satisfactory and counties teams have been able to engage with many local communities. A total of 142 CIGs proposals have been approved by the five participating counties (Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale). Funding of to the CIGs will be disbursed by end of March 2023. 3/29/2023 Page 1 of 8 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development Project (P163980) In relation to Component 3 activities, the mission noted that all critical positions in both the NPCU and CPIUs have been filled up. The participating counties have received vehicles and motorcycles which will enhance mobility of the CPIUs staff working with the CIGs. The NPCU and the CPIUs have developed monitoring and evaluation (M&E) reporting templates based on the Project result framework indicators. During the mission, the Bank and project team agreed on an action plan to accelerate the implementation of the project activities.
