Implementation progress under the Project is still slow. The disbursement conditions for components 1 and 2 have not been met completely, which puts the project at risk specially if no urgent action is delivered by WCS and the government entities involved. In particular, the project operational manual has gone several iterations, but it’s expected to receive no objection by the end of March 2024. Also, the interinstitutional cooperation 3/28/2024 Page 1 of 7 Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Integrated watershed management of the Putumayo-Içá river basin (P172893) agreements between government entities involved and WCS have been signed by Brazil and Colombia and pending Ecuador and Peru. With the last two countries, the latest estimation is that they will be signed before end of April 2024. During the semester, WCS delivered some activities, financed under component 3 that is eligible for disbursements or with cofinancing resources. These activities include:(i) collection of existing information about the basin and identification of gaps of information relevant for the integrated watershed basin management; (ii) establishment and initial meetings of the five thematic working groups (scientific knowledge, traditional knowledge, governance of the integrated management of water resources and environmental contamination, value chains) who will jointly contribute to guiding project activities and bring discussions between the multi country, multi sector stakeholders towards a basin management plan; (iii) design of the criteria for prioritization of areas of intervention for specific activities such as the establishment of a water contamination early warning system, and the delivery of subprojects for the development of value chains for selective non timber forest projects and aquatic species; (iv) finalize the design of the communication strategy including the project’s visual identity; (v) setting up of the governance structures for the project (regional, technical and national committees) with meetings held as expected. The PMU has also continued to map existing actions and organizations that are active in the basin and reached out to identify potential collaborations.
