In order to improve access to tourist destinations, and promote development, rehabilitation / construction of eight roads (~58 km) has been completed and work on two additional roads is ongoing. 425 tourist facilitation and informational signboards have been installed across the province. Various tourist amenities have been provided to upgrade destinations, which include waste management equipment, transportation for tourists, prefabricated toilets, tuck shops, benches, and illumination etc. Two museum management plans and six site management plans were launched to attract investment and promote public private partnership for destination development. Additionally, training of 10,000 individuals is also underway to impart tourism and hospitality related skills to men and women. The digital archiving of Lahore and Taxila museums is ongoing. With the implementation of ongoing and pipeline activities, tourists and visitors travelling to tourist and heritage sites will have better and faster access, as well as upgraded facilities. Better management and utilization of the tourism properties owned by the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP): The TDCP entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Hotel One chain of the Hashoo Group (Pakistan) which will manage and operate its property at Nankana Sahab, which is the religious tourist site for the Sikhs. Most of the TDCP resorts have now been outsourced to private sector as envisaged in the Punjab Tourism Policy. 2. Institutional capacity and improvement in the regulation regime: The institutional set up of the DoT was streamlined by splitting the mandate between Tourism and Sports departments. 3. Punjab Tourism, Culture and Heritage Authority’s (PTCHA) Rules of business developed through PTEG 4. Zoning Laws for Kotli Sattiyan developed through contribution from PTEG. Pending approval from Punjab Cabinet 5. PTEG contributed legal services for the drafting of the Punjab Museum Boards Act 2021. 6. The PTEG provided resources for establishing the Departmental Delivery Unit (DDU) in December 2021 to provide technical support to the DoT in implementation of tourism related initiatives including knowledge transfer, building capacity and improving service delivery. 7. More than 100,00 manual records of the Department of Tourist Services are being digitized through the project and future licensing is being automated. This will streamline and digitize the issuance and renewal of licenses for hotels, travel agents, and tour guides. Note: This indicator was revised during the project restructuring in April 2023 to reflect the latest set of activities (ongoing and planned) under the project.
